The ROCKETS program at the Trenton Head Start (THS) Smith Santiago Center, and the YWCA Princeton Childcare Center at Valley Road includes a monthly classroom activity, take home funwork activities to reinforce the theme and encourage parental involvement, and field trips for parents and students related to the monthly theme. Each activity incorporates the NJ Core Curriculum Content Standards Expectations for Preschool Students in the areas of math and science.
Teacher Launch Seminar The next seminar will occur in January 2010. A respected educator will provide a hands-on, how-to science session for preschool and early elementary educators in Trenton, Princeton, and surrounding areas. Each participant will leave the session with the knowledge of how to bring science to the classroom on a daily basis and a kit of classroom materials so they can use to perform the lessons in their own classrooms.
Rise - A Community Service Partnership (formerly Community Action Service Center CASC) The Rise Holiday Party provides holiday cheer to over 600 people in the Hightstown, NJ area. The party includes photos with Santa, a craft activity, food and drink, and a gift-wrapped science book for each child attending the party. This project has been in existence since 2002
Kids in the Kitchen Kids in the Kitchen (KITK) is an ongoing awareness initiative for the Association of Junior Leagues International Inc. This program has been in existence for five years, and this year, more than 200 Junior Leagues in 4 countries are expected to implement this initiative in their local communities. KITK educates young children about the importance of healthy food choices through the creation and implementation of a creative enrichment program that highlights healthy eating through engaging exercises and hands on creation of tasty, child-friendly snacks and meals. The 2009-2010 year marks the fourth year the JLGP has participated in KITK, and our community partner for 2009-10 is the Princeton Family YMCA.
